My Dark Sister’s Clerical Vows

Ruchi Vael'kyn

Ruchi's dark, slender fingers peeled a serpent's egg and drizzled some fire-paste on it. When she bit into the egg, Ruchi's mouth flooded with creamy, yellow egg yolk, which ran down her sharply curved chin. The taste was unsettlingly sweet and earthy. Ruchi rolled her eyes in amazement.

"Oh fuck, that's delicious."

After finishing her breakfast, Ruchi wiped her lips with the back of her hand and quickly got up. She packed a few things, including her cleric's mace, which she fastened to her belt through its hardened loop, allowing it to hang readily.

Time to exercise and pick on some of Loth's younglings. Oh, and avoid being executed.

Ruchi walked into the training room, where warriors, archers, and even clerics and priests kept up their physical strength. Her eyes were immediately drawn to Xael, another female cleric, except utterly devoted to... Loth.

Xael was coiling and flexing like a spider, with sudden forward movements aimed at a bag filled with small rocks. She moved with a coiled, arachnoid speed, bridging distances and disappearing at times. For heartbeats, she became completely invisible to Ruchi's eyes.

"What the fuck?" Ruchi whispered, though louder than intended.

"What?" Xael seemed pissed.

"Uhm, you moved like a spider."

"And?"

"Uhm, I mean, cool?" Ruchi purposely made it sound like a question.

Xael frowned and looked her up and down: "Aren't you here to train, not talk? Loth only rewards the devote and disciplined."

"Yes! Everything for... uhm, Loth!" Ruchi let her eyes wander over Xael's athletic, sweaty body.

"So, get to it?" Xael had stopped her movement and stared at Ruchi for a long moment.

Ruchi cracked her knuckles, whispered a prayer, Rel Sanct, and started moving, eager to impress and outshine Xael.
