The Morning After

Ruchi Vael'kyn

Ruchi was hungover, eyes red and dry. The fermented Spiderblood wine had left a hardened crust at the corners of her mouth. Despite the painful pulsing in her head, a slight smile curved her lips. She had shown them: Zynrae and Xael. Ruchi had wiggled her way out of the trap her own ego had spun. The ego, a hardened silo, she pondered.

Time for tea and curing this hangover.

Ruchi looked longingly at the kettle she was about to brew and giggled like a giddy school-drow. Neither Zynrae nor Xael would ever entertain the foolishness of going into the Underdark without a larger expedition. The slender drow sat down, her lips hovering near the hot beverage, her nerves stretched, eager to draw in the invigorating liquid.

"I'm ready." Zynrae suddenly stood in Ruchi's doorway, arms crossed, backpack over her shoulder.

"Zynrae?" Ruchi held her untouched mug, steam rising past her nostrils.

"Let's go."

"You... are ready? For... breakfast?" Cold dread gripped Ruchi.

Zynrae's narrowed, violet eyes fixed her with a cold stare.

"Ah, right. The Underdark. Yes.. what the fuck took you so long?" Ruchi grimaced, shook her head, and, with a slightly drunk sway, slipped into her leather boots.
