Secrets

Ruchi Vael'kyn

The silent, shadowy sphere enveloped the two dark elves as they walked slowly towards the entrance, with the orb drifting in perfect sync with the slender, obsidian feet. Who moved whom? Ruchi wasn't sure.

Neither sound nor sight pierced the gloom, sealing them away from the world. Mostly darkness. Total privacy.

Oddly, this put Ruchi at ease. All this time, she had harbored secrets too forbidden to tell, voices too foreign to reveal.
Ruchi felt conflicted about Zynrae's magic.

"You see the arcane web clearly. But I wonder who you follow."

Then she hesitated and noticed Zynrae had taken her hand.

"Don't tell me, Zynrae, once a secret is shared, it loses its voice."

Zynrae touched her lips. Was she trying to silence her? Did she say something about a bed?

Ah, subtlety, my old nemesis.

But the gesture was subtle, not demanding. Without warning, the orb dissolved, and the lights and sounds around the two appeared again, almost harsh and biting, intruding.

Ruchi's eyes darted to Xael, who was staring back from afar with narrowed eyes, and then back to Zynrae. She had to make a quick decision.

Cold dread coiled in Ruchi's spine, but curiosity pulled harder. As the surface-dweller say:

Curiosity killed the cat.

"Ah, fuck. Let us three settle this in the Underdark. Let the depths decide. Whoever turns back first loses the game."
